1930年8月出生，江蘇常熟人。 52年畢業上海同濟大學化學系 52年分配在上海物理化學研究所工作 1953年調至中國科學院長春應用化學研究所工作， 82年晉升為研究員 86年調至中國科學院金屬腐蝕與防護研究所任研究員 90年批準為博士生導師 94年調至浙江大學化學系任教 95年5月轉聘為教授 91年當選為中國科學院學部委員（院士）現任中國腐蝕與防護學會理事長，腐蝕電化學專業委員會名譽主任，中國化學會電化學委員會副主任。
