Curriculum vitae:
Dr. Renzo Luisi was born in 1971 in Luxembourg (EU). After his diploma at the secondary school in 1990 he was employed as analytical chemist in a wine company, working in the analytical laboratory for wine's quality assurance until 1994. He received his degree (summa cum laude) in "Chemistry and Pharmaceutical Technology" in 1996 at University of Bari discussing a thesis on the application in organic chemistry of lithiated Cloroalkyloxazolines (supervisor Professor S. Florio). In 1997 he was an instructor officier for the Italian Army, then in 1998 he started his PhD course in Chemical Science at the Chemistry Department of the University of Bari under Prof. S. Florio's supervision . During the PhD he has been visiting schoolar at University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign working in the group of Prof. Peter Beak on organolithium chemistry. In january 2001 he received his PhD discussing a thesis on asymmetric synthesis mediated from metalated oxazolines. After a six months fellowship with consortium C.I.N.M.P.I.S. in August 2001 he became assistant professor at University of Bari and joined the permanent staff of Prof. Florio's group. In January 2005 he got the position of Associate Professor in Physical Methods in Organic Chemistry at the same University . His current research interests are focused on organolithium chemistry, chemical reactivity of metalated heterocycles and applications in asymmetric synthesis of small heterocyclic compounds, as useful "building blocks" in organic synthesis. He has experienced with multinuclear NMR techniques for mechanistic studies and stereochemical problems. He has been co-author of several papers and attended numerous national and international conferences. |
Research Activity:
Is focused on the development of new methodologies for asymmetric synthesis of heterocyclic compounds by using organometallic intermediates. In particular, organolithium reagents generated from small heterocycles are used as new and efficient tools for stereoselective synthesis of aziridines, oxiranes, oxazetidines, bicyclic and spiro compounds, strained amino acids.
